The wait is finally over! Today, July 18, 2026, is the day we’ve been counting down to for two weeks. The sun is shining, the birds are singing at East Lake Park, and the Mother Hen team is ready and waiting to welcome you to our biggest community event of the year: Family Fun Day!
Whether you’ve been following our 14-day countdown from day one or you just happened to see our balloons from across the park, we are so glad you’re here. This event is more than just a picnic; it’s a celebration of family resilience, growth, and the beautiful, complex journey of parenting.
At Mother Hen, we believe in a holistic approach: supporting the entire family unit rather than just the individual child. Today is our chance to bring that mission to life in one of Atlanta’s most beautiful green spaces.
Event Essentials: What You Need to Know
Before you head out the door (or if you’re reading this from your car in the parking lot!), here are the quick details to ensure your day goes smoothly:
- Location: East Lake Park, Atlanta (look for the Mother Hen banners near the main playground and picnic pavilions).
- Time: We are here all day! Activities are in full swing from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
- What to Bring: We recommend bringing a picnic blanket or lawn chairs, plenty of sunscreen, and reusable water bottles. While we have snacks and water at the Mother Hen booth, having your own setup will make it easier to relax by the canal or under the shade of the oak trees.
- Parking: There is parking available along the park perimeter, but it can fill up fast on a beautiful Saturday like today!

What’s Happening at the Mother Hen Booth?
Our booth is the heart of today’s event. We’ve designed a series of social emotional learning activities for children that are both fun and deeply impactful. We know that navigating feelings can be "tricky-grumpy" sometimes, and we’re here to show kids (and parents!) that every emotion has a place.
1. The "Winston’s Words" SEL Station
Inspired by our very own Winston from Winston’s Words: Learning to Share My Feelings, this station allows children to engage in interactive word searches and drawing prompts. It’s a fantastic way to introduce social emotional learning activities for children in a screen-free environment. Kids can learn to name their feelings: whether they are excited about the playground or feeling a bit shy about the crowd.
2. The Feelings Journal Corner
We’ll have copies of our Children’s Feelings Journal available for kids to explore. This isn’t just a notebook; it’s a creative journey for ages 5–10. We’ll have a "Creation Station" where children can draw their "Happy Moment of the Day" and share it with our coaches.
3. Sensory-Friendly Chill Zone
We understand that for some of our friends, big community events can be overwhelming. As part of our commitment to neurodivergent parenting support, we’ve set up a quiet, sensory-friendly zone near the pavilion. This area features weighted lap pads, noise-canceling headphones, and a calm space for children who need a break from the excitement.
Professional Support for Your Family’s Journey
While the kids are busy with face painting and SEL games, we invite parents to take a moment for themselves. Today is a great opportunity to meet our team of experts in person.
Family Coaching for Transitions
Transitions are hard: whether it’s a move, a new school year, or a change in family structure like divorce or separation. We specialize in family coaching for transitions, helping parents create stability during times of flux. If your family is currently navigating life between two homes, come chat with us.
We’ll have copies of Two Hugs and Two Kisses by Natoya Cole Evans available. This heartwarming book tells the story of Winston, who discovers that love doesn't divide when parents live apart; it multiplies. It’s an essential resource for any parent looking to support their child through a separation.

Parent Coaching for ADHD and Neurodivergent Support
Navigating the world of ADHD, autism, or other developmental differences can often feel like a lonely journey. At Mother Hen, we offer specialized parent coaching for ADHD to help you move from feeling overwhelmed to feeling empowered.
Our coaches are here today to offer "mini-consultations." If you’ve been struggling with morning routines, homework battles, or just want to know how to better advocate for your child’s needs, stop by. We provide neurodivergent parenting support that focuses on your child’s strengths while giving you practical, evidence-based strategies to manage the challenges.
Strengthening the Entire Family Unit
At the core of Mother Hen is the belief that when parents are supported, children thrive. This "Family Fun Day" is a physical representation of the thriving, unified family units we work to build every day.

Our services go beyond coaching. We are also your partners in School Advocacy and Mediation. We know how intimidating IEP (Individualized Education Program) meetings or 504 plan discussions can be. We "Mother Hen" your family by stepping in as professional advocates, ensuring that your child’s school provides the accommodations they need to succeed academically and emotionally.
